1st Pattern Commando knife

In keeping with the long history of Cutlers in our group, we are offering an authentic First Pattern Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Knife to collectors of knives, militaria, historians and enthusiasts of Sheffield-made blades.

The knife is proudly made by our Sheffield craftspeople and bears the name and trademark of Joseph Rodgers, meaning that arguably the world’s greatest cutlery name is now present on arguably the world’s most famous knife. The knife retains the classic lines and proportions of the original 1st Pattern Commando design, prized by collectors for its simplicity and functional elegance, the knife represents an important chapter in British knife-making heritage.

We have painstakingly recreated the knife – delving deep into its history and recreating the knife from samples taken from the first production batch from 1940. The knife blade is best high quality carbon steel which is ground and mirror polished by hand using traditional methods like those used by the original makers, Wilkinson Sword.

Deep etching is used to mark the front of characteristic flat ricasso with “The F-S Knife”. Its reverse is proudly deep etched with “Joseph Rodgers Sheffield England” alongside the famous “*+” [Star and Maltese cross] trademark. This trademark dates back to 1682 and was granted to Rodgers in 1764.

The grip is solid brass which is knurled with the distinctive chequered pattern before being nickel plated. The instantly recognisable s-shaped cross guard is nickel plated mild-steel, the knife is hand assembled by our craftspeople using a matching nut which screws onto the threaded tang of the blade.
